Greenhouse
Gases

What are greenhouse gases? Greenhouse gases affect the atmosphere by absorbing some of the infrared radiation emitted from the planet's surface and back into the atmosphere.

Types of Greenhouse gases

  • CO2 (Carbon Dioxide)

  • CH4 (Methane)

  • N2O (Nitrous Oxide)

  • HFCs (Hydrofluorocarbons)

  • PFCs (Perfluorochemicals)

  • SF6 (Sulfur Hexafluoride)

*HFCs, PFCs, and SF6 are man-made gases.

Where are the main Greenhouse gases emitted?

  • CO2 is mainly emitted during energy use and industrial processes.

  • CH4 emissions are mainly from waste, agriculture, and livestock.

  • N2O is primarily emitted during industrial processes and fertilizer use.

  • PFCs, HFCs, and SF6 are discharged from the use of refrigerants and cleaning purposes.

As global warming occurs due to greenhouse gases, abnormalities such as rising global average temperatures, sea temperatures, and sea levels can be observed. Additionally, irregular seasonal changes and ecosystem abnormalities are observed due to global warming.
